Welcome to the 20th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME 2022) website.

The AIME 2022 conference will be hosted in person** by Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada from June 14-17 2022. As previous AIME conferences (from Pavia in 1985 to Porto in 2021), it will be a unique opportunity to present significant theoretical, methodological and applied results related to the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medicine.

AIME 2022 will include invited speakers, long and short presentations, poster sessions, tutorials, workshops and a doctoral consortium. Updates will be posted here as they become available.

The proceedings will be published by Springer as part of Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI), a subseries of LNCS focusing on Artificial Intelligence. Proceedings from prior AIME conferences can be viewed on SpringerLink.

 AIME Rising Star award

Since 2021 we have an annual "Rising Star" award to members of the AIME community. These awards are aimed at younger colleagues running their labs with recent breakthrough papers in the area. They are given by the AIME Board, presented at the conference and followed with an invited talk. The Chair of the AIME Board manages the list of candidates and the selection process. The travel costs for the Rising Stars are covered by the meeting, and the PC Chair and the Director of the AIME Board will encourage the awardees' engagement in the next AIME conference (area chairs, submissions from their students). The criteria for the award are as follows:
  • They must be within 5 years of PhD completion.
  • They must have had at least one full-length paper at AIME presented orally in the AIME conference's last three editions.
  • The submission must be based on a recent first-author journal or conference paper in the broad field of AI in Medicine with outstanding quality and novelty. We expect the awarded candidates to attend this year's AIME conference and give the invited talk, where AIME will waive the conference fee.
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, then we will need a one-page proposal stating how the individual has met the above criteria with any relevant details. In addition, please state any other relevant achievements in the field of AI in Medicine and how they have engaged with the community.

Please email your proposal to Annette (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Robert (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by April 4th.  Winners will be announced at the AIME 2022 conference.

Student Bursaries

To promote high attendance of students at the AIME2022 conference, we will offer a bursary to a limited number of students who have an accepted paper and are planning to attend AIME to present it. The bursary is sponsored by the Artificial Intelligence Journal (AIJ) and Springer.

The bursary will cover a portion of the student registration fees. We intend to distribute the bursary amount to as many students as possible; however, there is no guarantee that each application will be funded. Students interested in applying for the bursary should send an application to the conference co-chairs (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by April 20 2022; students will be notified of the decision by April 30 2022. The application should include their paper ID, paper title, their academic program, supervisor name and whether they are the presenting author or are attending AIME as a co-author of a paper.

Students attending AIME to present their paper should first register online by April 10 by paying the registration fees to ensure that their paper is included in the proceedings. Later, upon approval of their bursary application, the bursary amount will credited to their credit card.
